Lecture Series on
Rehabilitation and Disability
The Center hosts a lecture
series focusing on topics related to rehabilitation and disability. The
recently restructured format includes presentations primarily by the core faculty;
however, others across campus and outside of UTMB
are occasionally invited. Nationally recognized rehabilitation researchers are invited
a few times throughout the year to participate in the lecture series and also
consult with faculty and students on research topics, grant applications and
articles being written for publication. Click here for the 2007/08 schedule.
Seed Grants for Rehabilitation
and Disability Research
In an effort to stimulate
rehabilitation and disability research, the Center offers a limited number of
small seed grants to support innovative and translational research pilot studies
and student dissertation research. Funds are awarded in two
categories: 1) Student dissertation or thesis proposals; and 2) Research development studies in rehabilitation and
disability - directed toward junior faculty establishing research programs, or to senior investigators
changing the focus of their research to include rehabilitation and disability.

projects.
Recruitment and Research Support
The Center offers assistance to
departments and faculty in an effort to expand the number
of researchers interested in rehabilitation and disability and
to strengthen recruitment. Funding provided by the Center has assisted
UTMB faculty members in expanding existing rehabilitation research programs and
developing new programs directed at disability and chronic disease. Center
support has also been instrumental in recruiting faculty, students, and fellows
who demonstrate potential
to contribute to rehabilitation and disability research at UTMB.

Graduate Assistantships and
Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Center sponsors Graduate
Research Assistantships and Postdoctoral Fellowships designed to introduce new investigators to the
field of rehabilitation and disability research. The fellowship program
operates in conjunction with federally sponsored training grants that currently support
pre- and post-doctoral rehabilitation research. Graduate
assistant support is provided for full-time students in the rehabilitation sciences
PhD curriculum offered through the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and postdoctoral fellowships are provided for eligible applicants pursuing research
training opportunities in rehabilitation and disability. More information on the
rehabilitation sciences curriculum, graduate assistantships, and postdoctoral
fellowships can be found on the
Division of Rehabilitation Sciences
website.
