United Way raises nearly $1.5 million January 25, 2006 Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 01/25/06http://www.galvnews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=a73d3c135a944b92 The mood was celebratory Tuesday as the United Way of Galveston marked the end of its 2005 campaign. “I’m going to call it a success,” said John Stobo, president of the University of Texas Medical Branch and the outgoing president of the United Way. He acknowledged that the campaign had come up short of its $1.7 million goal, raising just under $1.5 million, but he said the community could be proud of what it had accomplished. “I want to thank everyone who rolled up their sleeves to help the hurricane victims and then rolled up their sleeves again to help the United Way,” he said. Tuesday’s luncheon marked the end of Stobo’s two-year tenure as president of the United Way of Galveston. “During my eight years of membership on the board, I’ve learned what a fantastic organization United Way is,” he said. « Back | The Newsroom »
