Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 01/26/06http://www.galvnews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=02ad12f8504b1388 Only a few days remain of early registration for the Galveston County YMCA’s Mardi Gras Beach Run. This year’s event, the seventh annual, promises a few improvements along with all the things that make this race a local favorite. The biggest change involves moving the race headquarters a few hundred yards to the Stewart Beach Pavilion. Much like last year, both the 5K run/walk and the 10K will start on the Seawall and head east. Both courses stay on paved roads throughout, except for a brief encounter with sand on the 10K course. “The 10K runners will be on the sand when they turn around at Apffel Park,” race director David Wise said. Dr. Wise, a professor of physical therapy at UTMB, has been involved with the race since its revival seven years ago by some of his physical therapy students.
