Mark Smith received the heart transplant Jan. 22 at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He was in need of a new heart after he received burns on more than 65 percent of his body from a fire when he was 13. Mark was transferred from an Intensive Care Unit room and into his own room a few days after the surgery, Davis said. Mark's doctor was Dr. Scott Lick, UTMB associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery, who specializes in surgery, transplants, cardiothoracic, and heart and lung surgery, according to the UTMB Web site, www.utmb.edu. « Back | The Newsroom »
