Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 01/31/06http://www.galvnews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=92754b26ed5ae8b0 After almost a year of discussion, the Galveston City Council will vote Feb. 23 on a new smoking ordinance. But despite all the talk, a coalition of anti-smoking groups has complained it wasn’t being heard. “We have had representatives of the coalition at the various workshop meetings and city council meetings when the smoking ordinance has been discussed, and it has been disappointing that these experts have not been called upon as resources to provide relevant facts that council members should consider in making decisions about this important city ordinance,” Renee Adame, spokeswoman for the Smoke-Free Galveston, said in written comments to The Daily News. The coalition includes representatives of the University of Texas Medical Branch, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
