About five months from opening its new hospital at its Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes campus, the University of Texas Medical Branch is changing the name of its most visible location on the Galveston County mainland. Medical branch officials said Wednesday they will rebrand the 62-acre, 252,000-square-foot complex UTMB Health League City Campus. The 142,000-square-foot expansion will include extra clinical space, including room for 39 hospital beds for inpatient stays of up to 72 hours, as well as an emergency room. Until the expansion, the campus only had outpatient beds and an urgent care center. “It changes the scope of the types of services available and the current name doesn’t reflect that,” Steve Campbell, vice president of marketing and communications said. “We had to think what is the right name for this (campus) to reflect the expansion of services.” [Note: Paid subscription required.
