GALVESTON, Texas — The 2006 Salute to Nursing Golf Tournament and Auction Party is dedicated to the memory of Johnny McEldowney, an avid golfer and well-known Galveston attorney who died of cancer on Aug. 30. The tournament is planned for Friday, Oct. 13, at the Galveston Country Club.
“A year ago, the School of Nursing asked Johnny if we could honor him at this year’s tournament,” Dean Pamela G. Watson said. “We were deeply saddened by his death and will honor Johnny and his passion for golf.” McEldowney served as a trustee of the Jamail Galveston Foundation, a major underwriter of the annual tournament.
The tournament starts at 8 a.m. with prizes awarded at a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. A party and auction is scheduled for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Galveston Yacht Club. Proceeds from this tournament provide financial assistance to UTMB nursing students. Entry fee is $175 and includes admission to the party.
“By participating in the Salute to Nursing, you make a difference not only to our students but also to the patients they will one day serve,” Watson said. “Your investment in nursing education is an investment in the future of health care.”
In addition to participating in the tournament and auction, various levels of sponsorship are also available. For more information, contact Julie Best at (409) 772-8264 or email jcbest@utmb.edu. Information is also on the Web at http://www.son.utmb.edu/developt/salute_to_nursing_2006.asp.
