Charging Ahead at UTMB, by Dr. David Callender: We applaud your editorial "Code red" in which you urge officials to take action to help our area's Level 1 Trauma Centers and specifically to help the Harris Health System. But we want to clarify a line in your editorial that might make some readers think UTMB has not fully recovered from Hurricane Ike. Contrary to what the editorial said that UTMB "still suffers from problems wrought from Hurricane Ike," we are going through a period of unprecedented growth and achievement. We still remember vividly when the good people of Harris County and throughout the state stood shoulder to shoulder to help UTMB as we rebuilt our Level 1 Trauma Center and our Galveston facilities. We stand ready to help and advocate on behalf of the other Level 1 Trauma Centers in our area.
