Dr. Michael Laposata, chairman of the department of pathology, will deliver the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences annual Dean’s Lecture during the University of Texas Medical Branch Homecoming 2015 activities.

“Personalized Medicine and the Amazing Progress toward Life-Saving Treatments for Patients with Cystic Fibrosis” is the title of Laposata’s lecture.

His presentation is 4 p.m. March 27, in the South Auditorium, second floor of Levin Hall at 11th and Market Streets on the Galveston Campus.

The public is invited to attend this free event.  Refreshments will follow in the lobby of Levin Hall.

Laposata, who also has a doctorate in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, joined UTMB in July 2014 as chairman of the department of pathology and holds the 1955 Teaching Professorship in the School of Medicine.  Prior to UTMB, he was at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he served as executive vice chairman of pathology and held the Edward and Nancy Foder Professorship. Laposata was also director of the division of laboratory medicine and clinical laboratories at Vanderbilt.

“We are very fortunate at UTMB, to have Dr. Laposata serving as pathology chairman,” said David W. Niesel, vice president, chief research officer and dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. “He embodies the best qualities of a dedicated researcher and educator – one who is committed to investigative progress, and also takes a genuine interest in trainees and their career success.”
