One of UTMB’s foremost Alzheimer’s experts will talk about the latest research and advances against the disease at the next Clear Lake Association of Senior Programs presentation at University of Houston-Clear Lake. Rakez Kayed, UTMB associate professor of neurology, will speak at 5:30 p.m. May 7 at UH Clear Lake’s Bayou Building, Garden Room, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., in Houston.
Callender, Geisbert featured at Chancellor’s Council in Austin
Dr. David Callender, president of UTMB, and Thomas Geisbert, a world-renowned expert on the Ebola virus, will be featured speakers at the 48th Chancellor’s Council annual meeting and symposium. Their panel, “Outsmarting an Outbreak,” is scheduled for May 8 at The Frank C. Erwin Jr. Special Events Center in Austin.
Learning about Angleton Danbury
The UTMB Health Angleton Danbury Campus recently hosted the Greater Angleton Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class of 2015 Healthcare Session on March 18. More than 20 leaders from local businesses toured the Angleton Danbury Campus. Katrina Lambrecht, vice president for institutional strategic initiatives, and Ann Varghese, associate administrator for patient and support services at Angleton Danbury, provided the group with an overview of the Angleton Danbury Campus’s history, its new relationship with UTMB and its plans.
UTMB a leader in health care administration
UTMB learned recently it has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute in the area of health care administration. ANSI has been assisting organizations for more than 90 years in the development of operational standards. The award recognizes UTMB’s ability to lead the development of standards that should improve operational effectiveness, reduce costs and enhance the patient experience.
Cochran new director of regional program
Dr. Marlo Cochran is UTMB’s new director of the Regional Maternal Child Health Program where she had been interim director.
Cochran, who has been with UTMB since 2003, began her career at UTMB as a nurse clinician in labor and delivery.
Earth Day
Earth Day is scheduled to be celebrated at 10 a.m. May 1 on the Moody Medical Library Plaza.
This year’s theme is “Plug into the Power of Green” and will focus on conservation efforts. This is the 23rd year that UTMB has marked Earth Day.
