UTMB researchers have found that women who’ve had Gardasil, the original HPV vaccine could still be at risk for certain high-risk strains of the disease. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease, and it can lead to cervical cancer. According to UTMB’s Dr. Abbey Berenson, the research showed vaccinated women who were found to be infected were most likely exposed to the HPV virus before getting Gardasil.
