Daily News interview with UTMB’s Allan Brasier, director of the Institute for Translational Sciences discussing the recent award of a $22M grant from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences. Brasier explained the central purpose of the ITS is to improve how medical research tangibly affects the community. Brasier provides examples of ITS accomplishments such as re-purposing a medication commonly used to treat high blood pressure to reduce hospital stays for patients with severe burn injuries in a study conducted by surgeon Herndon.
