UTMB’s David Niesel and Norbert Herzog look at LTNF, Lethal Toxin Neutralizing Factor, a specific blood protein that protects opossums from snake bites. Researchers are working with LTNF and conducting tests to determine if it may result in a universal antivenin that could cheaply and effectively replace those currently being used and, most importantly, whether it is safe for humans.
