Registration has begun for the UTMB School of Health Professions Causeway FunD Run that raises money for student scholarships. The 5K course is USA Track and Field certified and starts in the parking lot of The Galveston County Daily News Building, 8522 Teichman Road, Galveston.
From there, it’s up to the top of the causeway and back to the starting line. There also will be a 5K walk, 5K wheelchair race and a 1K for children. Early registration lasts until midnight Feb. 4. The race is $10 for children, $25 for adults and $20 for UTMB students. The event is in partnership with FitTriRun/FTR Race Management. For more information go to www.causewayrun.com or call 409-772-3006. The event raised more than $80,000 last year and had more than 700 participants.
A section of Market is closed
Two blocks of Market Street are closed to westbound traffic. The area is blocked off so that workers can connect high-temperature water lines at UTMB. The traffic restrictions will be in effect between Eighth and Ninth streets. Eastbound traffic lanes and access to driveways along the street-including those leading to John Sealy Hospital and the Ninth Street traffic circle — are not affected. The work is expected to last about two months.
Health Policy Dialogues continue
