Galveston county Daily News, Oct. 5, 2006http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=d27c83d3a16d49d5 University of Texas Medical Branch President John Stobo on Wednesday announced that he would leave his post in 11 months. When he goes, he’ll have run the institution for almost a decade. Even though the announcement came at a time when Stobo was the object of intense — if whispered — criticism, he said that had nothing to do with his decision. Rather, he said that he and his wife, Mary Ann, had been discussing the move all summer. “It’s a decision that we made a month ago,” Stobo, 65, said in an interview Wednesday in his office. The announcement comes just as UTMB is completing about 1,000 job cuts to a work force of about 13,000 — the county’s largest.
