By UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS MEDICAL BRANCH

The next phase of the renovation of John Sealy Hospital is scheduled to begin in the fall. But before any work begins on the exterior, the University of Texas Medical Branch will use a drone this week to map the building’s facade using infrared technology.

And more construction

Work has started on a project to create a straighter path to connect the new Jennie Sealy Hospital, the Clinical Services Wing and John Sealy Hospital. Work is expected to continue for about a year.

Wow, that’s a lot of doctors

With the commencement last week of more than 200 men and women from the School of Medicine, the medical branch now has graduated more than 14,500 physicians since three men received medical degrees in 1892. The medical branch was the Medical Department when it opened its doors in 1891. In 1919, the name was changed to the University of Texas Medical Branch. Among all the schools over the years, the medical branch has conferred about 40,000 degrees.

Free physical therapy clinic

The department of physical therapy is sponsoring a two-week musculoskeletal clinic offering physical therapy services to the community for muscle or joint pain, and muscle weakness and balance problems. The clinic is scheduled from June 27 to July 1 and July 18 to July 22. Participation in the clinic requires medical clearance. If you are interested in participating, contact Janna McGaugh, jamcgaug@utmb.edu or 409-772-3068 for more information.

Where is it exactly?

The medical branch is changing rapidly so new interactive maps have been developed for all three campuses and for all medical branch locations throughout the state. The maps can be viewed on portable devices and are searchable. The medical branch system is based on and uses the familiar Google Maps platform. Visit the map at www.utmb.edu/map.
