GALVESTON, Texas — Experts from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston will address the needs of childhood cancer survivors returning to school in a lecture from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at UTMB Children’s Hospital, Ninth and Market streets, in Galveston. A light dinner will be served.
The free “Welcome Back” program, sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, features Dr. Frederick Huang, UTMB assistant professor and director for the division of hematology and oncology in the Department of Pediatrics, and Janis Matthews, UTMB director for child life and school services.
Huang and Matthews will educate school personnel on the cognitive late effects of childhood cancer treatment to improve children’s transition from clinic to classroom.
