UTMB received a $3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the “Fourth R” program aimed at teaching teens to deal with conflict, peer pressure and prevent violence. UTMB’s Jeffrey Temple will lead the study. “This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while,” Temple said. “We’ve been in schools now for about seven years, collecting information on risk and protective factors in dating violence and promoting healthy relationships. We found out in the study that ninth grade may be too late as far as stopping violence from ever happening.” [Note: Paid subscription required. Contact UTMB Media Relations for details.]
