Just because the summer mosquito season is over doesn’t mean the threat of a Zika outbreak is over. UTMB researchers in August found that Zika virus could be passed from female mosquitoes to their eggs. Medical Daily quoted UTMB’s Robert Tesh: “when you consider the number of A. aegypti in a tropical urban community, it is likely high enough to allow some virus to persist, even when infected adult mosquitoes are killed."
