Energy drinks are one of the most popular dietary supplements on the market today, particularly among teens and young adults. In their latest Medical Discovery News column Drs. Norbert Herzog and David Niesel look at the history of energy drinks, which in the early days contained radium, a radioactive metal that was used as a luminous paint for watch and instrument dials. Radium use is prohibited today due to the danger it poses. This column also featured in the Abilene Reporter-News.
