The expanding role of nurse practitioners in health care is the focus of this story, which includes mention of research conducted at UTMB. The research found that patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who received care from NPs and other advanced practice registered nurses we less likely to visit the ER after hospitalization than those care for by a physician.
