Predicting when a baby will be born is not an exact science, but new studies, one from UTMB, are shedding light on new ways to predict the birth date. UTMB’s study discovered certain cell markers that happen as a woman starts labor. They found that changes in telomeres, part of DNA that responds to again, become present in the amniotic fluid, as the placenta and other pregnancy tissues get older. These cells could be telling the baby that it is time to be born. The journal PLOS One published the study.
