Liberian scientists recently announced they have found evidence of the Ebola virus in a bat in Liberia. The discovery is seen as a major step forward in determining where human Ebola cases come from. According to researchers, the finding also suggest that bats could serve as the natural wildlife carrier for Ebola. Many experts say more research is needed to determine whether this bat species is a natural host. “It’s not un-useful information, but it’s not altogether convincing of reservoir status,” said UTMB’s Tom Ksiazek providing third party commentary on the study.
