UTMB unit in Galveston provides extreme care, contains pathogens

Local news coverage of UTMB’s opening of the new Biocontainment Care Unit. The facility has six specially outfitted rooms segregated from other patient treatment areas. UTMB is one of 10 hospital systems in the United States designated to serve as a regional resource for biocontainment care. “When the government and the CDC asked if we wanted to be the regional treatment center, we were already prepared to accept patients, and now we can accept more of them with confidence,” said Chad Connally, program manager for the unit.
