UTMB researchers were able to reduce the pain of fibromyalgia patients with a medication that targeted insulin resistance. The findings could dramatically change the way chronic pain is diagnosed and treated. “We showed that most, if not all, patients with fibromyalgia can be identified by their A1c levels, which reflects average blood sugar levels over the past 2 to 3 months,” said UTMB’s Miguel Pappolla.
