Many people are familiar that postpartum depression can be an issue for women after giving birth, but they may not know that it is equally as important to be aware of depression during pregnancy. It is reported between 14%-23% of women experience depression during pregnancy and many believe the number is actually higher. UTMB’s Shannon Clark stresses the importance of letting your doctor know if you experience depression while pregnant. According to Clark, letting a nurse know will get the information to the physician. “Whatever is told to a nurse during the check-in will make it to the doctor and then once the doctor comes in, she might already be expecting to address that.”
