Medical cannabis states have lower rates of opioid prescriptions

Research conducted at UTMB found that fewer opioids are prescribed in states allowing medical marijuana use. “As more states enact laws legalizing medical use of cannabis, there is growing interest in cannabis as a potential agent to mitigate harmful effects associated with synthetic opioid use,” said Mukaila Raji the study’s senior author.
