Most Texans are familiar with illnesses they can get from mosquito bites, but they are not as familiar with diseases transmitted by ticks. The CDC reports that tick-borne diseases have more than doubled across the country in recent years. In this report, UTMB’s Lucas Blanton explains that the threat of tick-borne illness in Texas is not well understood. Blanton leads a team that is studying ticks that live here and the diseases they carry or could acquire. High Plain Public Radio, KUT Austin and Daily Heralds all broadcast this story.
