While Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in the country every year, it is not the most deadly.  That would be Rocky Mountain spotted fever. According to UTMB’s Lucas Blanton, RMSF is one of a group of diseases called spotted fever rickettsiosis. The bacteria lives in organisms such as ticks, fleas, and mites, which can transmit them to humans. Yahoo! News also distributed this story.
