Can empathy cure the common cold?

According to this week’s column from Victor Sierpina, empathy can play a big role in improving patient outcomes. He cites research that found a patient’s perception of doctor empathy in a population of older patients with common colds improved their outcomes, reducing the length of the condition by a day and a half.
