Galveston County Daily News, Nov. 30, 2006http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=37efc2b19b7c3b78 For years, the state chastised Galveston County for what it deemed to be serious overcrowding at its jail. Now, the county is poised to ship in inmates from another jurisdiction. Galveston County commissioners Wednesday approved a contract with Bexar County to house up to 50 of its inmates here. With a new jail open for business, Galveston County actually has room — and apparently some cells — to spare. Yarbrough envisions that given the jail’s proximity to the University of Texas Medical Branch, it will primarily serve as a jail catering to inmates with medical conditions.
