President’s Selection an Important Responsibility January 3, 2007 Galveston County Daily News, Dec. 29, 2006 Letter to the editor By Anthony P. de Bruyn, The University of Texas System Administration I respectfully submit the following corrections concerning statements made in The Daily News’ Dec. 24 editorial “Urgent need for a new president.”1. University of Texas Medical Branch President Dr. John Stobo announced his resignation on Oct. 4 (not last summer). UT Regents’ Chairman James R. Huffines moved expeditiously to announce a presidential search committee on Nov. 14 at a public board meeting — with an expectation for a president to be named by May 2007.2. UTMB Galveston is not the only public health institution that provides correctional managed care for the state, although it provides the majority of such services. Texas Tech University Health Science Center provides correctional managed care to prisons located in West Texas.3. Dr. James Guckian is the former acting executive vice chancellor for health affairs in the UT System — he left that position in November 2003. He previously served as vice chancellor for health affairs in the UT System. « Back | The Newsroom »
