Galveston County Daily News, Jan. 8, 2007 As area legislators prepare to return to Austin on Tuesday for a five-month whirlwind of wheeling, dealing and lawmaking, Galveston officials are bracing for the spending storm. With an estimated $153 billion in tax revenue to divvy up, the legislative carving knives will be flying fast. Galveston officials are primarily concerned with bringing home a piece of the pie large enough to fund as many local projects as possible. Finding funding to help prop up the coastal erosion program, the windstorm insurance pool and the University of Texas Medical Branch top the island’s spending list.
