Local leaders keep close eye on Legislature January 8, 2007 Galveston County Daily News, Jan. 8, 2007 As area legislators prepare to return to Austin on Tuesday for a five-month whirlwind of wheeling, dealing and lawmaking, Galveston officials are bracing for the spending storm. With an estimated $153 billion in tax revenue to divvy up, the legislative carving knives will be flying fast. Galveston officials are primarily concerned with bringing home a piece of the pie large enough to fund as many local projects as possible.
