Top 10 of 2006 January 11, 2007 Leesville Daily Leader, Jan. 10, 2007 Editor's Note: The following is No. 5 on the list of top 10 stories in Vernon Parish for 2006, as reported on by the Leesville Daily Leader Hornbeck native Eva Rowe made it her mission to make British Petroleum (BP) take responsibility for the deaths of her parents James and Linda Rowe, who were killed in the March 23, 2005 in a Texas City explosion along with 13 other employees. Amidst a high-profile trial with worldwide interest that was about to begin jury selection, Eva's Attorney Brent Coon of Brent Coon and Associates located in Galveston, explained that BP met every requirement that 22-year-old Eva Rowe demanded and through their acceptance Eva settled the suit. BP will give at least $32 million to the following organizations:$1 million, Hornbeck High School; $1 million, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital; $12.5 million, University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. « Back | The Newsroom »
