County seeks inmate health care savings March 19, 2007 Galveston County Daily News, March 18, 2007 GALVESTON - The Galveston County Commissioners Court is working to increase the quality and availability of medical care for indigent and non-indigent jail inmates by combining the separate funds used to pay for these services, officials said. "What we are trying to do is get the best bang for our health-care dollars," Galveston County Judge James Yarbrough said. "This will free up some money to foster more help for the needy who are not in jail. We have a lot of people in the county who qualify for indigent care." The changes - which ultimately will affect both prisoners and county residents - could save thousands of budget dollars that could be used to provide additional health care funding for the less-fortunate county residents not in jail, Yarbough said. « Back | The Newsroom »
