Galveston County Daily News, April 4, 2007 GALVESTON - University of Texas System regents will convene a "special called" phone meeting Thursday for an update about the search for the next president of the island's medical branch. Whether that update will include a short list of candidates is unclear. University System officials are keeping the identity of potential successors to Dr. John Stobo a closely guarded secret. But what's clear is that the regents are close to naming the next president of the county's largest employer and the oldest of the six health sciences universities in the University of Texas System.
