Expert: Health insurance solutions needed now April 9, 2007 Midland Reporter-Telegram, April 7, 2007 MIDLAND COUNTY -- Innovative solutions are needed to solve Texas' looming health care crisis as outlined in a report called "Code Red: The Critical Condition of Health Care in Texas. Panelists at a symposium called "How are we going to pay for health care?" tackled the subject at the CEED building Thursday. "This report has surprised me in the traction it has gotten across the state. Over 20 bills are pending (in the Legislature)," said University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston President Dr. Jack Stobo. "It remains to be seen which ones will see the light of day." Nationwide, there are 46 million uninsured people nationwide and about 5 million of those are in Texas. "It is not good for the state of Texas," Stobo said, because it negatively impacts people's health and discourages businesses from locating here. « Back | The Newsroom »
