Galveston County Daily News, April 11, 2007 GALVESTON -- Four candidates vying to become president of the University of Texas Medical Branch have or are touring the island campus this week, meeting with students, faculty and staff. But University of Texas System officials say the media can't tag along to report it. Medical branch officials, who typically offer unfettered media access, don't have a say in this matter. UT System officials are calling the shots. Why no access? System regents haven't yet conducted their own interviews of the candidates, said Anthony de Bruyn, a spokesman for the university system.
