Local cardiologist dies from Parkinson's disease at 83 April 24, 2007 Beaumont Enterprise, April 24, 2007 BEAUMONT-Dr. Thomas Joseph "Joe" Reeves, a noted cardiologist and avid sailboat racer, died Saturday after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 83. The Waco native was born April 22, 1923. He attended Baylor University where he was a pre-med student. Three years later, he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and served in an active duty program for freshman medical officers. Reeves completed research fellowships at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham where he became chair of the department of medicine in 1969. In 1973, he entered private practice in Beaumont through Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. During that time he served as clinical professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, the University of Texas Medical Center in Houston and the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. « Back | The Newsroom »
