Galveston County Daily News, May 3, 2007 Letters to the Editor First, let me say that I am sorry for Kathy MacLean's loss ("UTMB should start focusing on basic care," The Daily News, April 29). I have been a patient at University of Texas Medical Branch, and my care was excellent. I had a total knee replacement at UTMB and was pleased with the amount of time and the quality of care I received from the staff. In the past, I had received all my care at St. Mary's Hospital and was reluctant about going to UTMB. I could not have gotten better care anywhere else. I have been a longtime patient in the Pain Clinic, too. The care I received there was superior. I have two dear friends who are first-year interns and I know firsthand that the time and quality of care they give their patients far exceeds any expectations. I urge MacLean not to judge the whole of UTMB by her sad experience. As she's a nurse, would it be fair for someone to judge the entire nursing profession if one had a bad experience with one nurse? I think not. Eva M. Gregory Tyler
