Yamada to give lecture at UTMB May 7, 2007 Galveston County Daily News, May 7, 2007 GALVESTON -- An outstanding event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Levin Hall's North Auditorium. The inaugural Don W. Powell, M.D. lecture will be given by the distinguished Dr. Tadataka Yamada. Dr. Yamada is the president of the Global Health Program of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In this capacity, he oversees grants totaling more than $6 billion dollars directed to applying technologies to address major health challenges. Yamada's link to Galveston is his long friendship and collaboration with Powell on the "Textbook of Gastroenterology."
