Callender will earn $925,000 yearly in pay and benefits as president of the University of Texas Medical Branch. Callender, CEO of University of California-Los Angeles Hospital System, begins his medical branch job as president designate July 1, when his salary becomes effective. Callender, 49, begins full duties as president Sept. 1, a day after his predecessor, Dr. John Stobo, retires after 10 years as president of the medical branch. The University of Texas System offered Callender a compensation package that includes $609,325 in base salary; $165,675 in practice plan funds, which compensates Callender, a head and neck surgeon specializing in cancer, for money he's not making practicing medicine; and $150,000 in deferred compensation. « Back | The Newsroom »
