Those With Medical Issues Can Board First May 16, 2007 Galveston County Daily News, May 16, 2007 Letter to the Editor Medical priority boarding on the Bolivar ferry has been reinstated, and we would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming backing we received from all across the United States. This settlement allows priority boarding for those with serious medical conditions. As lead plaintiff in this lawsuit, we would like to give a big "thanks" to all of those who supported this cause. The press coverage was amazing. University of Texas Medical Branch personnel and staff were very helpful. Drs. Gabriel Rodriguez, Daneshvari R. Solanki and Lisa Nash wrote letters to explain the medical needs for priority boarding for those with serious illnesses and handicaps. Thanks to Galveston County Commissioners Court, especially Patrick Doyle, for your letters, phone calls and support. Special thanks to Sen. Kyle Janek and his staff, especially Michael Wright, who accepted our phone calls at all hours and actually came to the peninsula to personally investigate the problem. Last but certainly not least, we want to thank the Texas Civil Rights Project, especially Jim Harrington and Jody Barton, who so capably represented us. Medical priority boarding with no questions asked is now a reality for the seriously ill and handicapped of the Bolivar peninsula. - Max and Edith Watson, Port Bolivar. « Back | The Newsroom »
