Grant will help county prepare for hurricane season May 24, 2007 Houston Chronicle, May 23, 2007CONROE – Just in time for the 2007 hurricane season, Montgomery County received an additional $185,000 grant to put emergency generators in public facilities and to train more citizen teams to respond in the event of a large-scale disaster. The official hurricane season starts June 1 and ends Nov. 30. Montgomery County received a supplemental grant from the Texas Governor's Division of Emergency Management to enhance its programs for emergency preparedness. The grant will provide $160,000 to add generators to all its community centers and the Willis Police Department. It also provides $20,000 to get citizen teams trained in emergency response. While Montgomery County had received an earlier grant to hire a Citizen Emergency Response Team coordinator for the county, the new $20,000 in funding will be used to develop, implement and coordinate training programs in the county. Among the key personnel that will need training are the county judge's office, the Montgomery County Hospital District, emergency medical services, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the county fire marshal's office, county engineers, county purchasing, environmental health, University of Texas Medical Branch offices, county communication information service, county and private hospitals, the American Red Cross, United Way, the county tax assessor, school district transportation departments and county and city attorneys. « Back | The Newsroom »
