UTMB unhappy with state funding May 30, 2007 Galveston County Daily News, May 30, 2007 GALVESTON - The University of Texas Medical Branch did not receive additional funding for its indigent-care mission, despite efforts by the county's state legislators. During the 80th session, local legislators unsuccessfully lobbied for UTMB's indigent-care funding to be doubled and reinstated to the $20 million it stood at in 2003. The Legislature approved $10 million in indigent-care funds. The medical branch president, Dr. John Stobo, said in a statement that he appreciated the legislators' efforts and the university would continue to "find workable solutions to the problem of the medically uninsured in this region and throughout the state." « Back | The Newsroom »
