County Needs Senator Who Can Deliver More Than ‘Hope' For UTMB June 1, 2007 Galveston County Daily News, May 31, 2007 Letter to the editor In regard to the story "Janek holds out hope for more UTMB funding" (The Daily News, May 28): Sen. Kyle Janek was hoping for more state funding for indigent health care and for University of Texas Medical Branch. Why in the final hour of the legislative session is that all Janek can do? Considering how vocal he has been in the last two years, putting barriers up to keep UTMB from raising needed revenues to support UTMB's efforts to fund indigent care, Janek assured folks that the state legislature would help this time around. I guess Janek's influence on legislative leaders is not what he promised. UTMB and programs for indigent care cannot wait until 2009 or for another failed special session. I think Galveston County needs to elect a state senator with more ability to do more than "hope for more funding." -- Donna Johnson Phoenix, Ariz. « Back | The Newsroom »
