Galveston County Daily News, June 14, 2007 GALVESTON - The Federal Bureau of Prisons on Wednesday awarded the University of Texas Medical Branch a contract to provide comprehensive medical care to the 5,700 prisoners at the Federal Correctional Complex in Beaumont.The one-year contract, with renewals, is valued at about $99 million throughout the next five years, said Jack Smith, associate director of business development for UTMB's Correctional Managed Care division. The competitively awarded contract begins July 18. It is the division's second largest contract; first is the $400 million contract with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to provide comprehensive health services each year to 80 percent of the state's inmate population.
