GALVESTON, Texas — The global shortage of nurses will get a small respite at 4 p.m. Friday, April 21, as some 268 nursing students receive their diplomas during the 119th commencement of the School of Nursing at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
In conjunction with commencement, nursing students will participate in the traditional “pinning” ceremony at which each receives a school pin. Selected graduates will be inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International, Alpha Delta Chapter. Inductees are
exemplary nurses who are identified as current or future nursing leaders.
Guest speakers at commencement, held at Moody Gardens, are Donna Bohmfalk, nursing instructor, and Kathleen Nash, assistant professor.
Major awards to be given including the Oslerian Award to Brandon Bredimus, presented by Dr. Jack Alperin, and the Betty Lee Evans Award to Judy Norris and Deven Cockerell.
