Victoria Advocate, July 18, 2007 VICTORIA - The Victoria Eye Center now has the area's only full-time retinal specialist, a doctor who can treat macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other vitreo-retinal diseases, according to a center press release. With Dr. Wael Abdelghani's arrival area residents will not need to go out of the city for such treatment, said Dr. George Boozalis, the eye center's medical director. "Dr. Abdelghani's presence allows us to offer local residents the services of a full-time retinal specialist," he said. Abdelghani taught ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a top-ranked U.S. medical and research institute. He is also a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch.  "There has always been a tremendous need in the Crossroads area for the treatment and ongoing care of patients with diabetic eye conditions," Abdelghani said.
