Salute to Nursing Golf Tournament to fund student scholarships July 25, 2007 For immediate release: July 25 2007 GALVESTON, Texas - The 13th Annual Salute to Nursing Golf Tournament and Auction Party to benefit students at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston School of Nursing will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at the Galveston Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament provide financial scholarships to students. This year's tournament is dedicated to the memory of Titus Harris Jr. Harris served on the UTMB Development Board since 1991, taking a leadership role on the executive committee, serving as a member of the educational excellence and longevity/chronic diseases committee for excellence, and chairing the major gifts committee. He was also a member and supporter of the President's Cabinet. "He leaves a legacy of service, entrepreneurial spirit and support for UTMB," said Dr. John D. Stobo, UTMB president. The shotgun start, scramble tournament gets under way at 8 a.m. The auction party is scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Galveston Yacht Club, 601 Holiday Dr. Entry fee for individual golfers, which includes the tournament and party, is $175. Included are a round of golf, use of the locker room, gift bags, golf cart, range balls, refreshments, continental breakfast and admission to the awards luncheon. Tickets for the auction-party for those who do not enter the tournament are $75.
